Hans Wehr Dictionary

This dictionary is an enlarged and improved version of '' Arabisches Worterbuch fur die Schriftspracheder

gegenwart" by Hans Wehr and includes the contents of the " supplement zum Arabischen Worterbuch fur

die Scriftsparche der Gegenwart" and a collection of new additional material (about 13.000 entries) by

the same author .

The content:

This dictionary presents the classical meanings of Arabic vocabulary which the student finds in Quran,

Hadeeth and Islamic books.

Principally presents modern written Arabic, based on the form of the language, found in the prose of

books, newspapers, periodicals, and letters. This form is also employed in formal public address, over

radio and television, and in religious ceremonial.

The importance:

Hans Wehr provides the linguistic meanings of words in Quran and Hadeeth ; because the translations of

Quran and Sunnah gives only the Islamic meanings ,but the student needs to know the linguistic root for

those words ; so as to have more clear understanding for Quran and Sunnah .

Helps the student to know the linguistic meanings of Islamic terminology; such as Fiqh , Usool , and

Aqeedah .

Enable the student to look up for the linguistic meanings of many terms in morphology, Syntax, Semantics

and Rhetoric.

It's basically written to present modern written Arabic in media, newspaper, lectures given by shykhs and

scholars.
